Terms of Service

Effective October 10, 2026. Questions: contact@civility.tools.

1. What Civility is

Civility ("we", "us") is a Discord bot and a web dashboard that runs moderation workflows on Discord servers. A server's mods build the workflows. Civility carries out the steps they publish: for example, deleting a message, timing out or banning a member, posting a message, or asking a mod to decide.

2. Who can use it

You need a Discord account in good standing, and you must meet Discord's minimum age where you live. Using Civility also means following Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. Nothing here overrides them.

3. Adding Civility to a server

Only someone who can add apps to a server can add Civility to it. When Civility is added, it asks Discord for the permissions its steps use, listed on civility.tools. A workflow that needs another one asks for it then. The server's owner can remove any permission, or remove Civility, at any time in Discord.

The server's owner decides who can use the dashboard, by giving mod roles abilities on the Mods page. Anyone who holds one of those roles in Discord can do what those abilities allow.

4. Your server, your workflows

Civility acts on your instructions. The workflows a server publishes decide what Civility does. The server's owner and mods are responsible for those workflows and for the actions they take, including actions on members. Moderating a server is your decision. Civility is a tool for doing it.

You agree not to use Civility:

  • against Discord's rules, or the law;
  • to harass, target or discriminate against people;
  • to collect people's data for anything other than moderating your own server;
  • to overload, probe or interfere with Civility or Discord.

5. When things go wrong

Civility checks with Discord whether each action it took was applied. When it can't tell, it says so and asks a mod. Discord, the network or our host can still fail. Civility can be offline, late, or unable to finish a step. Don't rely on Civility as the only safeguard for anything where a missed or late action would cause serious harm.

6. Data

The Privacy Policy and Data handling pages say what Civility keeps, why, and for how long. In short:

  • Case history is kept while Civility is on a server.
  • A server's data is deleted 30 days after Civility is removed from it.

7. Price

Every template, step, check, case and mod decision is free on every server, forever. If Civility adds paid plans, they only add things on top of that. No server is charged unless its owner chooses a plan.

8. Changes and ending

We may change Civility, or stop offering it. If we stop it, we'll say so on civility.tools at least 30 days ahead, unless the law or Discord requires otherwise.

We may suspend a server or a person who breaks these terms. You can stop at any time by removing Civility from your server.

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use Civility after a change means accepting it.

9. No warranty

Civility is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.

10. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for actions a server's workflows told Civility to take. Our total liability for anything to do with Civility is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Today that amount is nothing.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States.
